Memory lane: Why I didn't check out of location apps Foursquare & @Swarmapp

I've checked in 5,756 times since signing up six years ago with the geo-locator site Foursquare, Swarm's predecessor, and have remain fiercely loyal even as only an estimated 1/5th of my 479 contacts bothered to continue with the app; as I wrote this on a Friday afternoon, I discovered I am 13th on a list of 51 friends who bothered to check in at a single location. #StarWars taught me a PR lesson -- 38 years later

As a 9-year-old in the late 1970s who came of age during the first Star Wars trilogy, I couldn't get enough of this fictional tale of spaceships and storm troopers and Skywalkers. We're used to selfies. Why not self-scoring on Facebook?

In this post on LinkedIn, I argued that social media giant Facebook needs to allow its users to self-score their posts. If their pal has lost his parent, I want him or her to know it will be seen. Give it a "5" on a 1 to 5 scale after being posted. A cute photo of his dogs? Love 'em, but score it a 2. Yes, I advocated Facebook users provide their content as well as score their content. Trust me, self-scoring could be the best thing since selfies. Why? Because it's selfless. Read my LinkedIn post.
